3.2 Department - Item/Location/Reference Restrictions

This section will explain on setting item and locations restrictions by departments.

Objects that can be assigned to a department in MarginPoint 8 to enable restrictions are:

  • Authorized stocking locations can be assigned to departments.
  • Authorized issuable items can be assigned to a department.
  • References, such as job codes and account codes, can be associated with departments and users within a department can use only those references assigned to the department.

3.2.1 To enable any of these restrictions

  1. At the far left of the home screen, click the Company tab to display the company navigation tree.
  2. In the Company Tree, click the company and then department to edit.
  3. In the menu bar, click the Administration drop-down.
  4. Click the Company option in the drop-down. The Administration> Company ribbon bar will open.
  5. Click the View Departments in the Department box on the ribbon bar.
  6. Select the Department to edit
  7. Click the Manage drop-down in the Department box on the ribbon bar.
  8. Click Edit Department.
  9. Uncheck the bottom three boxes as needed, to ENABLE the restrictions for those objects.

*Note: As soon as you uncheck a box, that department will have NO ACCESS to any items, locations or References (as selected), until you perform the steps in Sections 3, 4 or 5 as needed.

10. Click Save.

3.2.2 Setting up Department/Item Restrictions

1. At the far left of the home screen, click Company tab to display the company navigation tree.
2. In the Company Tree, click the company that contains the department(s) to which the restrictions will apply.
3. In the menu bar, click the Administration drop-down.
4. Click Company in the drop-down. The Administration> Company ribbon bar will open.
5. In the Department box on the ribbon bar, click View Departments. All departments in the company will be listed.
6. Check the department to which the restrictions will apply.
7. Click the Restrictions drop-down in the Department box on the ribbon bar.
Note: Restrictions can be applied to only one department at a time. If more than one department is selected, the restrictions drop-down is disabled.
8. Click the Item Restrictions option in the drop-down.
9. The Item-Specific Restrictions window opens, listing all items available to the selected department.
10. Check each of the items that users assigned to this department will be allowed to be issued. Department members will be unable to receive items that are not checked.
11. Click Save.

3.2.4 Settings up Department/Reference Restrictions

    1. At the far left of the home screen, click the Company tab to display the company navigation tree.
    2. In the Company Tree, click the company that contains the department(s) to which the restrictions will apply.
    3. In the menu bar, click the Administration drop-down.
    4. Click the Company option in the drop-down. The Administration> Company ribbon bar will open.

    5. In the Department box on the ribbon bar, click View Department. All departments in the company will be listed.
    6. Check the department to which the restrictions will apply.
    7. Click the Restrictions drop-down in the Department box on the ribbon bar.

    8. Click the Reference Code Restrictions option in the drop-down.
    9. The Reference-Specific Restrictions window opens, double click the Reference field in the top half of the screen and the listing of all References available to the selected department will appear in the box half of the screen.
    10. Check each of the References that users assigned to this department will be allowed to select when issuing items. Department members will be unable to select references that are not checked.
    11. Click Save.
